up to the day I started honouring my period, this monthly confirmation of my womanhood was a torture on many levels. in my young years I saw it as my exclusive punishment from nature.
since I went off sugar my life became pretty calm. there are no big up’s and down’s… rather charming waves in a interweaving harmoniously. like in the past, the long periods without sugar changed my body, cleared my mind. I felt strong, grounded, focused.
all would go well until the day before the period. just before the period we women are low in magnesium, insulin levels reduce, stress hormone cortisol rises and the feel good hormone serotonin drops. the body is asking for more sugar, to feel happier and more relaxed during this time. it might give you some satisfaction, but only until the next sugar attack. some crave even fatty foods, or is eating all at once your pick? how about Chocolate. this one used to be my medicine for all pre-period nightmares.
but how to avoid falling into this sugar trap again? the white death is a trap, you’ll never really recognise until you stop consuming it. and no… I am not talking about white sugar, that isn’t part of my diet since many years. here it’s about all kinds of sweeteners, fruity sugar, lactose, natural flavours. little easier on us than white sugar, but early affecting the system in a similar way.
‘what are you talking about?’ asked one of my clients recently. ‘high profile doctors have confirmed that you need sugar’
its true. we need it. we need the sweet taste of Mother Nature, the sweetness of life. but not in the form of (refined) sugar. our system doesn’t recognise or actually care about the dose we take, as long we take it regularly, increasing the dose gradually.
while I can be determined month-round, I feel vulnerable prior to my period.
so, here I was. pre-menstrual. moody. sweets-craving. maniac-like.
until I created as a strength enhancing energy booster aka sweet kick aka – my Sweet-Love-Infusion.
before I promise you too much, try this creation yourself.
the ingredients are:
- 1/2 liter of unsweetened Rice Mylk (you can choose Almond Mylk, Hazelnut Mylk,…)
- 1 tea spoon of Chaga
- 1/2 vanilla pod
- 3 -4 cloves
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 3-4 raw cocoa beans
blend all ingredients and let them sit for about 3 hours. to intensify the taste even longer.
heat up to your liking. keep on adding your choice of milk to stay in the flow.
after just one cup my belly feels instantly warm and nourished. without any sugar. just the sweetness of nature.
